There are many kinds of sewing threads, which can be divided into the following categories according to the different fiber materials used:
1. Natural fiber sewing threads
These include cotton thread and silk thread. This thread has good dimensional stability, excellent heat resistance, but its strength is relatively poor, currently mainly used for hand sewing fixed.
2. Synthetic fiber sewing threads
The main varieties are: polyester thread, nylon thread, acrylic thread and vinylon thread four. The main characteristics of synthetic sewing threads are high tensile strength, small washing shrinkage, good abrasion resistance, moisture resistance and not easy to be corroded by bacteria, and it has sufficient raw materials, low price and good sewability.
Among the synthetic sewing threads, polyester thread and nylon thread are the most used. Among the polyester threads, there are ordinary polyester threads, polyester filament threads and polyester filament elastic threads, which are more commonly used. Among them, ordinary polyester thread dominates due to its low price, high strength, wear resistance and good chemical resistance. Polyester filament yarn has a high oil content, fewer joints and higher strength, so it is mostly used for military sewing. Polyester filament elastic sewing thread is mainly used for sewing elastic fabrics. In luggage sewing, polyester thread is mainly used for lining or auxiliary material sewing, sometimes also used for thin leather fabric or textile fabric surface sewing.
There are three kinds of nylon threads: filament thread, short fiber thread and elastic deformation thread. At present, the main variety is nylon filament sewing thread, which is stronger, more elastic, lighter in quality and has good luster compared with polyester thread.
