Canvas Fabric Composition
Canvas fabric is actually made of cotton or cotton polyester as raw material plus special technology.
Generally divided into the following four kinds:
1.cotton printed canvas, cotton canvas, as the name implies, is 100% cotton fabric, cotton fabric is the advantage of moisture absorption, dyeing performance, soft hand, comfortable to wear, plain appearance, not easy to insects, firm and durable; its disadvantage is the poor fast drying performance. Cotton printed canvas is a good choice for luggage fabrics, fashionable and beautiful, at the forefront of fashion, also used in some products with slightly higher requirements for strength.
2.polyester and cotton printed canvas, is containing polyester and cotton two ingredients, as for its specific composition ratio is not specified, as long as its composition meets the conditions can be named after it; polyester and cotton canvas is developed on the basis of cotton canvas, adding into the polyester component, so the fabric strength will increase, especially in terms of wear resistance.
3.Printed canvas is generally 60 cotton : 40 polyester, this type of fabric is generally used for luggage fabrics, tablecloths, tablecloths, curtains, other, its advantage is strong and durable.
4.Polyester printed canvas, polyester canvas is all-polyester canvas, some all-polyester canvas may be more expensive than cotton canvas, polyester canvas high strength, good elasticity, good impact resistance, corrosion resistance, moth resistance, heat resistance, good light resistance, exposure to the sun for 1000 hours, the strength to maintain 60-70%, but moisture absorption is very poor. Polyester printed canvas is generally used for handbags, cosmetic bags, curtains, kitchen and bathroom products, etc.
Classification Of Canvas
Canvas is a thicker cotton or linen fabric, originally used for sails and named after it. It is generally made of plain fabric, with a small amount of twill fabric, and the warp and weft yarns are made of multiple strands. Canvas is usually divided into two categories: coarse canvas and fine canvas.
1.Coarse canvas, also known as canopy cloth, has good waterproof performance and is used for car transportation and open-air warehouse cover as well as field tenting. Fine canvas is used to make labour protection clothing and its supplies, and after dyeing or printing, it can also be used as shoe materials, luggage fabrics, handbags, backpacks, tablecloths, tablecloths and so on.
2. Fine canvas: warp and weft yarns are generally 2 strands of 58 to 6 strands of 28 (10 counts of 12 to 21 counts of 6), which are used to make labour protection clothing and its products. After dyeing, it can also be used as shoes, travel bags, bags, and other fabrics.
Canvas Measurement Indicators
1. Yarn count
In short, the yarn count refers to the thickness of the yarn, which is common in China or the "English system", i.e.: - pounds ( 454 grams) of cotton yarn (or other components of yarn), length of 840 yards ( 0.9144 yards / m), the fineness of the yarn is one. If the length of a pound of yarn is 10 x 840 yards, the fineness of the yarn is 10 counts:
32S/2 , 42 count 3 twisted: 42S/3.
2. Density
The density of the canvas fabric is calculated in metric units and refers to the number of warp and weft yarns arranged in a square inch. The size of the density directly affects the appearance, feel, thickness, strength, folding resistance, breathability, abrasion resistance and warmth of the fabric, and is also related to the cost of the product and the size of the production efficiency.
Warp and weft density can be measured by the following two methods:
① Direct measurement method
The direct measurement method is done by means of a fabric mirror or a fabric density analysis mirror. The length of the scale of the fabric density analysis mirror is 5cm, underneath the analysis lens, a long piece of glass with a red line engraved on it, when analysing the density of the fabric, move the lens, the red line on the glass and the red line on the scale are aligned between two yarns at the same time, take this as the starting point, move the lens while counting the number of yarn roots, until the 5cm scale for this. The output is multiplied by 2, which is the density of the 10cm fabric.
When counting the number of yarn roots, take the centre between the two yarns as the starting point. Fabric density should generally be measured 3-4 data, and then take its arithmetic mean for the measurement results.
②Indirect test method
This method is suitable for the density of large, yarn special number of small regular organisation of the fabric. First of all, after analysis of the fabric and its tissue cycle yarn number (tissue cycle weft number), and then multiplied by the number of tissue cycle in 10cm, the resulting product is the warp (weft) yarn density.
3.Gram
It refers to the weight of a square meter of fabric grams. Woven canvas fabric with ounces "an" or "OZ".Knitted canvas is generally measured in grams ( g/m2 )
It is converted to 1 ounce equals 28.375 grams, but in the weighing machine is generally 28.35 grams, with the yarn count and fabric warp and weft density, the thicker the yarn, the greater the density, the thicker the cloth, the greater the gram weight.
This and the fabric yarn weave, density does not have much to do with, but the ounce is used in thicker fabrics, such as: denim canvas must be in ounces, in fact, you can also understand the yarn weave thicker with ounces, but generally used in denim and canvas.
4. Width
Width: refers to the width of the canvas weft, in the international common use of "inches" or "said, such as 47". In the domestic common use of "centimetres" or "cm" said, such as "120cm".
Conversion formula between inches and centimetres: 1 inch = 2.54 cm
Commonly used conversion form for calculating the width of canvas:
Inches to centimetres - general usage
36*91.44 90cm
47" 119.38 120cm
63" 160.02 160cm
Canvas Maintenance Methods
1.Do not put it in the sun or bake it in a hot place to prevent degumming or degumming and accelerated ageing.
2. When cleaning, the force should be gentle and even. Do not brush hard to avoid breaking the line or brushing off the pattern and decorative parts.
3. Avoid contact with sharp objects to prevent scratching.
4. For white canvas (e.g. cloth shoes), do not come into contact with difficult to clean items such as carbon ink. After cleaning this colour of canvas, you can apply toothpaste or white chalk powder. Be careful to apply it evenly and let it dry to prevent discolouration. The best and most convenient way to prevent discolouration is to find two sheets of clean white tissue paper to cover it, dry it and tear it off (otherwise the white cloth will turn yellow).
5. If there is a broken thread, fallen thread, or decorative parts loose and other minor problems should be sent to repair in time. To extend its service life.
Canvas Fabric Advantages and Disadvantages
Canvas fabric advantages: strong and durable, versatile, any outfit with, can be DIY, variety, fashionable and versatile, large capacity.
Canvas fabric disadvantages: not waterproof, not dirty, easy to wash deformation, yellowing, fading.
